🌿 Invasive Exotic Plants: Do Not Compost Them!
Japanese knotweed, common reed (phragmites), and buckthorn are found in our area.
Do not put them in your green bin! The Ministry of the Environment advises against composting invasive plants, as they can survive the process, produce new growth, and spread.
🌱 How should you dispose of them?
Seal invasive plants in plastic bags and place them in the garbage.
Do not dump them in nature, ditches, or waterways.
Please contact the Environment Department if you have any questions.
If you identify one of these species on your property,
do not compost it to help prevent its spread and protect our natural areas.
