Founded in 2007 by the World Health Organization, the goal of the Age-Friendly Municipality (AFM) strategy is to promote active ageing by optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance the quality of life as people age. In practical terms, an age-friendly city adapts its structures and services to be accessible to, and inclusive of, older people. Active ageing depends on a variety of factors that surround individuals, families and communities. These include both material conditions as well as social factors.
An Age-friendly Municipality
In July 2021, Hudson Town Council approved the new Seniors’ Policy. The policy contains 18 objectives and 42 actions to be implemented by 2024, with the goal of improving the quality of life of seniors in our town. Objectives include improving communications and information, outdoor spaces and buildings, housing and living environment, leisure, health and social services, safety and transport.

Programme RASSURÉ for seniors
Home care at the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest provides the RASSURÉ program (Ressource dédiée à l’Accompagnement et au Soutien pour la Sécurité de l’Usager de Retour à domicile après un Épisode de soin), which allows seniors to return home safely after a hospital stay and to avoid ending up back in the hospital.
To ease the transition, a health and social services assistant (HSSA) will visit the senior within 24-48 hours after they return home from the hospital. The HSSA helps the senior adjust to their return home and identify their needs, and makes sure they are safe and comfortable. They also inform local resources of the situation and make the necessary arrangements for services.
