Important changes to the Nuisance by-law

The following changes came into effect on August 7, 2023:

NOISE: The hours that one is permitted to carry out construction work or use loud equipment such as lawnmowers, chainsaws and leafblowers have been reduced. The new hours are:

  • Monday to Friday: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sunday, and legal holidays: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TALL GRASSES: It is not permitted for property owners or occupants to neglect the upkeep of their property or to let grass or brush grow taller than 30 cm in a manner that creates a safety hazard or negatively impacts the appearance of the neighbourhood.

A reminder that anyone contravening this by-law commits an infraction and is liable to a fine of two hundred dollars ($200) to one thousand dollars ($1,000) per day if the offender is a physical person or of four hundred dollars ($400) to two thousand dollars ($2,000) per day if the offender is a moral person; and, for each repeat infraction, to a fine of four hundred dollars ($400) to two thousand dollars ($2,000) per day when the offender is a physical person and of at least eight hundred dollars ($800) to four thousand dollars ($4,000) per day when the offender is a moral person.
