Middle-aged housewife, Shirley Valentine, is trapped in a stale, loveless marriage. Feeling like a servant more than anything else, Shirley regularly finds herself drinking white wine and talking to the kitchen wall while she prepares her husband’s dinner. When Shirley’s best friend asks her to go to Greece for 2 weeks, she jumps at the chance with a mix of exhilaration and anxiety. While in Greece, her worries fade as she begins to rediscover the person she used to be and starts to leave behind the loneliness of her life in Liverpool.
