24 Oct Flushing of aqueduct network – neighbourhoods of Alstonvale and Hudson Valleys
The Public Works team will flush the aqueduct system located in Alstonvale and Hudson Valleys on Tuesday, October 29th.The process will take place on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is expected to be completed by Friday, November 8th.
Why flush the system? Flushing the aqueduct system removes the mineral sediments (including iron and rust particles) that the water has deposited on the inside walls of pipes. This process also maintains the quality of our drinking water. The regular maintenance of our aqueduct ensures that our network is in good working order, especially street valves and fire hydrants.
Flushing the network may cause:
- A temporary lowering of your water pressure,
- Discoloration of the water due to the detachment of iron particles.
Use of tap water during this period:
If your water appears discoloured, it is preferable for you to either,
- run the cold water until it becomes clear (this may take up to 30 minutes) or,
- wait until after 4 pm to do laundry, wash the dishes, etc.
A reminder to never leave an open faucet unattended.
