Greenwood’s StoryFest 2022 welcomes as its summer author, gardener extraordinaire, Patterson Webster to Hudson on August 14 

 Anatomy of a Garden depicts the creation of the world-class Glen Villa Art Garden and its kinship with nature and human nature. 

Imagine a landscape filled not only with flowers of every kind but a personally created space on recovered and rediscovered family land, and you begin to appreciate the unique flavour of this new book and the widely renowned garden that inspired it.

The Greenwood Centre for Living History is delighted to welcome a true outdoor artist and established author Patterson Webster to StoryFest 2022. She will discuss as well as present slides from her newly published memoir, Autobiography of a Garden, at the recently established Hudson Community Hub (262 Main Road) on Sunday, August 14, at 2 pm.

Patterson and her late husband, Norman Webster, whose illustrious journalism career included being editor-in-chief of The Globe and Mail, and The Gazette, teamed up to transform a typical 303-hectare (750-acre) family farm in the Eastern Townships into their world-class Glen Villa Art Garden.

A visual artist and photographer, in addition to being a writer and, of course, garden designer, Patterson relates in her memoir how she went from being a neophyte gardener who initially copied other people’s ideas to learn from them to a gardener with passion and confidence in her own ideas and innovations.

In Autobiography of a Garden, Webster explores what it means to create a garden–and the meaning that a garden can assume–as a bond forms not only with nature but with the passage of time, cherished memories, and the process of aging in relation to such a space.

Her presentation will be followed by refreshments in the nearby Greenwood gardens at 254 Main Road. Hudson’s Greenwood Centre for Living History is an almost 300-year-old historic home and property on the beautiful shores of the Lake of Two Mountains. For more than 20 years, the literary festival StoryFest, has been a centrepiece of Greenwood’s busy calendar of events and activities.

Tickets for Patterson Webster’s presentation and the refreshments reception are $20 each.
