AT HUDSON CREATIVE HUB
SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 2024 @ 7:30 pm. Tickets $10.
Clint’s guests for March at the Hub’s “In conversation with Clint Ward” series will be Heather Markgraf and Peter Vatsis.
Heather Markgraf arrived in Canada in 1975 from England and taught Grade 4 and Drama for four years at Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School in Montreal. She returned to her studies and obtained a degree in Drama from Concordia University.
In 1992, Heather was inspired to start a local theatre in Hudson. The lack of a suitable venue for her project did not deter her! A large tent was erected in the parking lot of Mon Village Restaurant, and various theatre productions took place in this temporary location. These theatrical performances became very successful, and it became obvious that a permanent location was required. In 1997, the search began, and the Hudson Train Station was purchased as a permanent theatre location. The theatre was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization under the name Village Theatre West. Since then, the Hudson Village Theatre has become an extremely popular locale for drama, musical performances, the Hudson Film Society, the Hudson Film Festival, and many other local events.
Peter Vatsis is currently Artistic Director of the Hudson Village Theatre. He is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada and also of John Abbott College’s Professional Theatre Program. While he has worked for many companies, he has contributed to more than 30 productions at Hudson Village Theatre. For many years, he has worked as a set and lighting designer with over 100 professional credits to his name. He shares a particular interest in working on productions that capture the Canadian experience, address social justice concerns, or help advance the careers of young theatre practitioners. In 2005, Peter returned to John Abbott College as an educator to teach lighting design in the Theatre Arts and Entertainment Technologies Department.
