Behind the Scenes of World Cinema – Black Orpheus

June 1 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Behind the Scenes of World Cinema. Presented by CLINT WARD

We all enjoy wonderful entertaining, and thought-provoking movies.  We rarely give thought to the history or to all the brilliant ideas, insights and artistry that contribute to a polished final product.

This exciting series at the Hub will help us understand and appreciate movies of all genres, be they comedies, dramas, documentaries, classics or musicals.  Or we could delve into all the exacting work that goes on behind the scenes.

On the first Saturday of each month, Clint will either show us a full movie or will guide us through insightful films or video clips and interviews where behind the scenes work will be explored.   It will be a two hour adventure in film.

For June’s event, the film will be “Black Orpheus”, the film that introduced the world to the wonderful Brazilian music, Bossa Nova.    This is in coordination with the theme of this year’s Hudson Creative Hub’s gala on May 25th, which celebrates 60 years of Bossa Nova.

Black Orpheus is a 1959 romantic tragedy film directed by French filmmaker Marcel Camus.  It is based on the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice in a contemporary favela in Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval.

The film won the 1959 Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, the 1960 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film, and the 1960 Golden Globe award for best Foreign Film.
