Burning ban lifted – June 8, 2023

The recent rains and cooler temperatures have reduced the fire risk in our area to moderate.
At this risk level, residents may light open-air fires (residential only) that comply with By-law 436, as long as they are not in proximity to a forest. What does proximity to the forest mean? Click HERE to find out more.
Despite the reduction in fire risk, we strongly recommend that residents remain extremely cautious and refrain from lighting an open fire.

Burn bans are historically put in place when the fire risk is considered very high or extreme. In these cases, the following recommendations from SOPFEU apply:

VERY HIGH risk level:
NOT PERMITTED:

  • Open-air fires
  • Sparklers, fireworks, and flying lanterns
  • Any equipment that can create a spark.

PERMITTED:

  • Fireplaces (firepits) installed on a dirt or gravel surface and equipped with spark screens.
  • The use of an enclosed cooking appliance (ex: covered bar-b-q, pizza oven with a door).

EXTREME risk level:
NOT PERMITTED:

  • Open-air fires, even fireplaces (firepits) with a spark screen.
  • Sparklers, fireworks, and flying lanterns.
  • Any equipment that can create a spark.

PERMITTED:

  • The use of an enclosed cooking appliance (ex: covered bar-b-q, pizza oven with a door).
