The Town of Hudson Adopts its 2025 Budget: Strategic Investments, Reduced Mill Rate, and Focus on Community Priorities

Hudson, Québec, December 17, 2024 – On December 16th the Town of Hudson adopted its 2025 budget, emphasizing fiscal responsibility while making strategic investments in infrastructure and community projects. This budget reflects Council’s commitment to sound financial management and meeting the evolving needs of residents.

Mill Rate Reduction
Following a 40% increase in residential property values across the municipality, the Town has reduced the residential mill rate from $0.642 to $0.4662 per $100 of assessment. This adjustment ensures that taxpayers are not disproportionately affected by the new assessment. While the 2025 budget includes a prudent 2% increase in overall taxes, Council has worked diligently to minimize the financial burden on residents.

Key Investments in Community and Infrastructure
The 2025 budget focuses on enhancing quality of life and improving municipal infrastructure through targeted investments:

  • $300,000 for parks and green spaces, supporting sustainability and outdoor recreation.
  • $125,000 for community pool renovations, scheduled for the end of the 2025 season.
  • $100,000 increase to the tree maintenance budget, bringing the total to $215,000, with the additional funds specifically earmarked for managing and removing ash trees.
  • $4 million for the reconstruction of Lakeview Street, funded by a $2.1 million federal subsidy and $1.9 million investment from the Town, improving accessibility and connectivity along this vital corridor.

Statement from Mayor Chloe Hutchison
Mayor Chloe Hutchison expressed gratitude to the members of Council and the Town Administration for their diligence and collaboration throughout the budgeting process.
