In 2014, the Pine Lake dam failed due to a piping fault under the foundation.
In April 2021, the estimated cost to replace the dam was $1 050 000.
This year, with 90% of the design completed, estimated costs have risen to $1 904 000.
This increase is due to:
• Climate change: the dam needs to be larger than initially planned to manage the 1 in 100-year rain falls;
• The design of the dam reduces human intervention and, by extension, the risk of human error;
• Installation of a larger or a second culvert under Cameron – to act as an overflow pipe during high volume periods.

The engineering consulting firm EXP will provide us with the costs of this second option.
Residents were invited to send their feedback to Council during a written consultation period, which closed on May 20th, 2022.
