Water supply and sewers

The Environmental Health Department’s function is to ensure the health of Hudson residents and respect for the environment over the whole territory, 24/7, 365 days a year.

The Department has two employees, the manager/operator and a second operator. They each hold a diploma in water treatment processes issued by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport. They also have a certificate of competence issued by Emploi Québec authorizing them to perform a complete treatment of surface water and groundwater and to operate a distribution network.

The environmental health department’s mandate is to:

Provide residents with high quality water in sufficient quantities

Operate the wastewater treatment system

Provide effective waste management

The Environmental Health Department’s mission is to operate and manage all drinking water production facilities and wastewater treatment facilities in full compliance with applicable standards.

Regarding wastewater, the Department ensures compliance with discharge standards in order not to pollute the receiving environment. No chemicals are used in wastewater treatment. Bacteria in a controlled environment degrade organic matter and various pollutants. Treatment monitoring is conducted on a daily basis and a monthly sample is taken to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
