March 2nd Town Council: Mayors’ Opening Remarks

It was quite a month in more ways than one.

On Feb.9, I met with our MNA, Marie – Claude Nichols concerning the status of our infrastructure funding and the potential penalties MAMOT was contemplating assessing Hudson.

Later that day, MRC mayors met with Marie – Claude Nichols and Lucie Charlebois, MNA for Soulanges to review pr ogress on the “ Pôle logistique ” (Distribution hub) and le “Pole Institutionnel ” (Institutional hub),including the hospital, for the region. There is encouraging progress but with anything governmental, patience is a virtue.

I will not comment on the suspe nsion of the Town Manager since it would appear that she has regrettably chosen the legal route. The Town clerk and I met with senior executives of the AMT on Feb.13 with a series of questions to which they have promised a written reply within 3 weeks.

The most important item to retain for the moment is that we are obligated by decree, as members of the CMM, to pay approx.$175,000/annum, whether we want train service or not. Additional service would require the financial participation of 5 other municipali ties which would be a political challenge right now.

On a brighter note, Snowman’s land was a new and exciting event but damn cold. The entire Snowfest weekend was good but unusually cold.

We also celebrated a local business success story by attending the live presentation of Dragon’s Den where Tutti Gourmet (Michael Kachani) was given $100,000 to further expand their growing business. This was held at the Legio non a wider screen on Feb.18. You’ll be surprised to know that they already provide employment to 18 people.

I personally had several meetings with land owners, promoters and developers.

Last Tuesday’s special extraordinary meeting was less than extraordinary. The Pine Lake resolutions and the emergency measures will be explained to you by Dr. Lechowitz. For the same reasons already given, I will not comment on the ot her resolution.

The crowning of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Queen took place at the Willow last night – a most successful evening.
