SUMMARY:In conversation with Clint Ward: JP Martel and Steve Walters
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 11th at 8.00 pm \nDo you like to dabble in writing? Do you have lots of ideas you’d like to express in book form?   Do you have a dream of becoming a published author and seeing your name on the cover of a book?  For most of us\, the answer is a resounding “yes”\, but we may be unsure how to navigate the unknown waters of self-publishing.  This is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring authors to gain insights into the self-publishing process from experienced professionals.  It is your opportunity to learn about how to get your words in print and even onto the book market! \nClint’s two guests for October are JP Martel and Steve Walters\, both with vast experience in the publishing world. \nJP Martel is a former Professor of Language and Literature at McGill\, and most recently at the University of Montreal.  He has extensive experience as an advertising communicator and is the author of several books\, including his most recent “The Side Door:  The Way to Go to Unleash Your Best Self.” \nSteve Walters is an accomplished actor\, director\, graphic designer\, and a founding member of Oxygen Publishing.  He specializes in book covers\, interior design formatting\, promotional branding\, and design. \nPlease join us for what promises to be an exciting and inspiring evening of conversation.  Questions and thoughts from the audience will be welcomed. \nTickets at $20 are available online or at the door.

SUMMARY:Hub Talks: Christopher Labos
DESCRIPTION:HUB TALKS SUNDAY OCTOBER 20TH @ 2 PM \nPresenter:   Christopher Labos\, MD\, MSc – Associate \nWe are delighted to announce that our Hub Talks presenter for October will be Montreal cardiologist and epidemiologist Dr. Christopher Labos\, who will discuss his 2023 book “Does Coffee Cause Cancer?  And 8 more myths about the food we eat”.  The book is a fascinating and refreshing clarification of food myths\, which describes how sloppy science perpetuates misconceptions about food. \nThis talk promises to be lively and highly informative.  There will be opportunities for the audience to ask  Dr. Labos any questions they may have on the subject of healthy nutrition and how it affects our well-being\, a topic that is so relevant to us all. \nWe hope you will be able to attend and look forward to welcoming you to HUB TALKS. \nBIOGRAPHY: \nDr. Labos is a cardiologist who holds a Master’s degree in epidemiology.  He is a regular contributor to the Montreal Gazette\, CJAD radio\, CTV Montreal\, and CBC’s Morning Live.  He blogs for Medscape and co-hosts an award-winning podcast The Body of Evidence. \nBy his own description\, he spends most of his time doing things that he doesn’t get paid for\, like doing research\, teaching\, and podcasting.  Occasionally\, he finds time to practice as a cardiologist so he can pay his rent.  He realizes that half of his research findings will be disproved in five years:  he just doesn’t know which half!  To date\, no one has recognized him on the street. \nTickets (20$) available on line and at the door. \n

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 9 – 7:30 pm\nSunday\, November 10 – 2pm\n\nJS Bach’s Long Walk in the Snow brings together a fantastic musical cast of Kate Bevan-Baker (violin and voice)\, local hero Sam Roberts (violin\, guitar and voice) duo-harpists Jennifer Swartz (Montreal Symphony) and Lori Gemmell with master storyteller Tom Allen. The show mixes history and music – classical and not – to weave the tale of 20 year-old JS Bach walking 400 km in 1705 to escape a nasty situation in his first job\, to find the father figure he didn’t know he needed and quite possibly\, love. \n\nTickets and more information: Hudson Village Theatre \n  \n
